Ally Fiola: Album release show

Ally Fiola has been working hard for most of the winter and spring on her debut jazz album, entitled "Dreaming Away". The album consists of mainly original music, inspired by hard bop and New Orleans brass band.

The debut album was recorded with the help of her quintet, The Next Quest, at the illustrious Sonic Temple in Halifax NS. This project wouldn't have been possible without the Dream Hughie Award, and the musicians who recorded with her.

Joining Ally at the show are: -Dan Corbett (trombone) -Addison Sowery-Quinn (sousaphone) -Paul Baker (guitar) -Tom Cuming (drums)

Join Ally Fiola (sax) and Chris Rogers (piano) at the Compass Distillers on May 31st, 7-10pm for some free jazz! They will be performing jazz standards, original music, and maybe even a few pop tunes.


Recording first album

The Sonic Temple

Ally is recording her first album, which will include her original music and be backed by her band "The Next Quest". The release date will be in late spring 2018. Stay tuned!


DAY 1 of Film Scoring Mentorship

Ally will be completing an 8 week mentorship in film scoring with David Findlay of Lunenburg, NS. She is quite excited to start this new phase of her musical career, and can't wait to learn new composition techniques and technologies!


36 CBG Band Christmas Concert

Halifax Central Library, Spring Garden Road, Halifax

The 36 Canadian Brigade Group Band presents A Family Festive Event, a delightful afternoon of Holiday Music to entertain the whole family. All ages are welcome and should be prepared to sing along. And there will be treats afterwards! The musicians in the band are reservists from a very diverse range of occupations, including teachers, students, and many other professions. Musicians in the Canadian Forces promote morale within the ranks and liaise between the Forces and civilian populations.


The Next Quest & Josh Lake

Led by Ally Fiola, "The Next Quest" is a 5-piece jazz combo which performs original music and arrangements inspired by third-stream jazz, New Orleans, and gospel.

Josh Lake is a multi-award winning funk and soul musician, backed by a tight and gritty band. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes for this night full of heavy beats!


Sisterhood Debut - Prismatic Arts Festival

Bus Stop Theatre, Gottingen Street, Halifax

Women Safe & Sound is a 5 phased grassroots art project creating original song and music film on the issue of violence against women. 'Sisterhood' will debut at the Prismatic Arts Festival on Sept 15th 7pm at the Bus Stop Theatre. Please join us for an interactive evening of story telling and music.


The Next Quest

Ally Fiola & The Next Quest is a jazz quintet consisting of sax, trombone, tuba, guitar and drums. It features original music influenced by Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Kenny Wheeler, and Gospel/New Orleans sounds.

The Globe Blues Band @ Halifax Jazz Fest

1313 Hollis St, Halifax

For years Jerry Granelli has wanted to create an album of the R&B, blues and jazz that inspired him as a young musician. Last December it finally happened.

This show is part of the Halifax Jazz Festival "Creative Music Series", and Ally is excited to be joining this group once more on the bari sax.

Ally Fiola will be making her debut at the Halifax Jazz Festival this year with a free show on the mainstage, with her band "The Next Quest"!

This show will feature mainly originals that will be on her upcoming album.


UFO @ the ECMAs

Saint John, NB

Unidentified Funk Object's album "Space Funk Party" was nominated for the East Coast Music Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Ally had the great pleasure to play the sax on this album, and to join UFO on stage for this performance at the ECMAs!


Jerry Granelli and the Globe Blues Band

For years Jerry has wanted to create an album of the R&B, blues and jazz that inspired him as a young musician. Last December it finally happened. This show is a special sneak preview of the songs featured on his upcoming passion project!

Ally will be joining this group on the bari saxophone.

Andy Duinker and the Great Big Band deliver swinging/dancing tunes for 3 hours of dancing fun.

Ally is joining in on alto and flute!


HJF presents "In C"

The Carleton , Argyle street , Halifax

The Halifax Jazz Festival presents ‘In C’ / Anteater Thursday, March 30, 2017 at The Carleton Music Bar & Grill in Halifax. Show starts at 8:30pm, $7

‘In C’ is a modern minimalist piece of music. It consists of 53 musical phrases played sequentially, each repeated an arbitrary number of times before moving to the next. The piece typically lasts between 45 and 90 minutes.

Terry Riley's performance notes for ‘In C’ say that the band should have around 35 musicians. Riley also says you can have fewer. Join bassist Casey Thompson as he gathers together some of Halifax’s finest musicians together to present this epic piece.
